かたやま・まさひと　1955年東京都生まれ。1984年京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科絵画専攻修了。1988年A.C.C.の招聘により渡米。1995年文化庁派遣芸術家在外研修員として渡英し、ロンドン大学ゴールドスミスカレッジ大学院に留学。ぎりぎりまで単純化された植物や風景のイメージを、少ない色と絵具の層で表現。独特のやわらかな質感と奥行きを画面に作り出す。

Born in Tokyo, Japan, 1955. Katayama completed a Master's degree at Kyoto City University of Arts in 1984 in painting. He visited the U.S. in 1988 on an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship and studied in England at Goldsmith College, University of London, in 1995 under a program of overseas study for artists sponsored by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. Reducing images of plants and scenery to absolute simplicity with limited colors and layers of pigment, his works have a distinctive soft texture and depth.
